Christmas Tree Growing

Our Christmas tree plantation was established in 2011 with the planting of the first balsam fir seedlings. Additional seedlings are planted each year to create a range of tree sizes and ensure that trees are available for harvest each year. It takes 8 -10 years from field planting for balsam fir to reach merchantable Christmas tree height.

Seedlings are hand planted in early May before bud-break and are about 1' tall. Each tree receives fertilizer and pruning/shearing every year to help maintain proper growth and shape. Weed control and mowing are done during the summer to reduce competition for moisture and nutrients.

Balsam fir have soft, fragrant, dark green foliage and naturally form the classic Christmas tree shape. These characteristics have made balsam fir the New England Christmas tree favorite for generations.
